Built on India Post's own directory

PIN codes, post offices, office types, delivery status, divisions, regions and coordinates come from the All India Pincode Directory till last month, published by the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India under the Government Open Data License - India (GODL). The copy used here was last updated on 3 October 2025 and lists 1,65,627 post offices in 19,586 PIN codes.

The area of each PIN code, outlined in red on the maps, is India Post's All India Pincode Boundary (Government Open Data License - India (GODL)), with 19,302 PIN code areas. The outlines are simplified to about 20 m so they load quickly.

Villages and their PIN codes, sub-districts and districts come from the Local Government Directory (LGD) - Villages with PIN Codes, published by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India (Government Open Data License - India (GODL)). 6,73,632 villages are searchable.

Each village is placed and outlined with its official boundary from the Local Government Directory and NIC's Bharat Maps (with Survey of India village points for states those boundaries do not cover yet), as compiled by datameet (CC0 1.0 (credit datameet and the government sources)). 6,02,801 villages have an exact location and 5,62,288 an outline, with their gram panchayat and block. A village without one is placed at the middle of its PIN area and marked as approximate.

How we clean it

Maps and India's borders

Base maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap data using OpenFreeMap vector tiles. India's external boundaries are drawn from Natural Earth's India point-of-view boundaries, which follow the Government of India's position, including the whole of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Maps on this site are for finding post offices and are not authoritative boundary maps; for official boundaries refer to the Survey of India.

Places, addresses and satellite imagery

Landmarks, streets and street addresses come from OpenStreetMap contributors through the Photon geocoder by komoot. The PIN code shown for a place always comes from India Post's data, not from OpenStreetMap. Satellite imagery is Esri World Imagery (Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics and the GIS User Community). DIGIPINs are calculated in your browser with the grid published by India Post (Apache 2.0).

How accurate is "Find my PIN"?

When you share your location or click the map, Bhartiya Map checks which of India Post's PIN code areas the point falls in, right in your browser. For the few places without a published area, it falls back to the PIN shared by the closest delivery post offices and says so. Very close to the edge of an area the outline is accurate to about 20 m, so confirm the PIN for important mail.
