Frequently asked questions
Where can I download the official map of India?
From the Survey of India, the Government of India’s national mapping agency. This page lists its latest maps, including the 2026 political map of India, with View and Download buttons that open each file straight from surveyofindia.gov.in.
Is the map of India available in Hindi?
Yes. The Survey of India publishes the political map of India in English, Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Maithili and Sanskrit, and the railway map and most state maps in Hindi too. Choose the language next to each map on this page.
Which is the latest political map of India?
The Survey of India’s 2026 edition, at a scale of 1:40,00,000 on a 90 × 90 cm sheet. It shows Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as union territories, with every state capital and district headquarters.
Where can I get a blank outline map of India?
Under “Outline maps of India” on this page: the Survey of India’s A4 outline maps, blank, with major rivers, with state boundaries or with state names. They print on any A4 printer.
Why does the map open instead of downloading?
The maps are PDF files on the Survey of India’s website, and your browser decides whether to show a PDF or save it. If it opens, use the download button in the PDF viewer, or press Ctrl+S on a computer.
Why are the files so large?
They are print-quality wall maps, some more than a metre wide, so a state map can be up to 80.8 MB. Use Wi-Fi if you can, and if a download stops part-way, try again: the Survey of India’s server sometimes drops long downloads.
Does Bhartiya Map store these maps?
No. Every button opens the file directly from surveyofindia.gov.in, so you always get the Survey of India’s own, unaltered copy. The links were last checked on 24 October 2026. Bhartiya Map is not affiliated with the Survey of India.
Can I use these maps in a project, book or video?
The Survey of India offers them as free downloads. To reproduce or publish a map, in a book, on a website or in a video, its copyright policy asks for written permission and the credit “Source: Survey of India, Government of India”. The outline shapefile is free for personal, educational, research and website use.
