Frequently asked questions
How do I find the PIN code of my current location?
Tap "Use my current location" and allow location access when your browser asks. Bhartiya Map finds the official PIN code area you are in and shows the PIN code, along with your street address, district, state, coordinates and DIGIPIN.
How accurate is the PIN code it finds?
With GPS on, most phones place you within a few metres, and the PIN code comes from India Post’s official boundary for that spot. Very close to the edge of a PIN area, check the outline on the map and confirm the PIN for important mail.
Is my location stored or shared?
Your PIN code is worked out in your browser, and Bhartiya Map stores nothing. To show your street address, the coordinates are sent to Photon, an OpenStreetMap address service run by komoot. There are no accounts, cookies or trackers.
What is a DIGIPIN?
DIGIPIN is India Post’s digital address: a 10-character code for a square of about 4 m × 4 m anywhere in India, introduced in 2025. A PIN code covers a whole area served by a post office; a DIGIPIN points to your exact spot, such as your front door.
Can I find a PIN code without sharing my location?
Yes. Search for your village, locality, a landmark or a post office above, or open the PIN code map and click your spot.
Why does it show a rough location?
On laptops and with GPS off, browsers estimate your position from Wi-Fi or your internet connection, which can be off by a few kilometres. Turn on location services, try on your phone, or click the right spot on the map.
