Privacy policy

We never store your location.

Last updated

Bhartiya Map has no accounts, sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising. This policy explains the little that leaves your device when you use bhartiyamap.com, who receives it, and what happens to emails you send us.

Your location

"Find my PIN" asks your browser for your location only when you tap it, or straight away if you have already allowed this site. Your PIN code and the nearest post offices are worked out in your browser, from data it downloads from this site in district-sized pieces, so this site's server never learns your exact location. To show your street address, the coordinates are sent to Photon, an address service run by komoot on OpenStreetMap data. Bhartiya Map never receives or keeps them. The same happens for a point you tap on a map.

Searches

Searching PIN codes, post offices, villages and districts runs in your browser, using small index files from this site. To find landmarks and streets as well, what you type (after three letters and a short pause) is also sent to Photon.

Services we use

Parts of the site load from other services. Like any web request, each one receives your IP address along with what is listed here, and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Photon by komoot
Place search and street addresses. Receives what you type to find landmarks and streets, and the point whose address is shown. Privacy policy
OpenFreeMap
Map tiles. Receives the map area being viewed. Privacy policy
Esri
Satellite imagery, only when you choose Satellite. Receives the map area being viewed. Privacy policy

Links to Google Maps (for directions), India Post, the Survey of India and data.gov.in take you to those websites, where their own privacy policies apply.

Emails you send us

If you write to hello@bhartiyamap.com, we receive your email address, your name if your email shows it, and your message. We use them only to reply and to fix what you report, and never add you to a mailing list.

Server logs

Like every website, the servers that deliver Bhartiya Map, run by our hosting provider, automatically log each request, including your IP address, your browser and the page or file requested. These logs are used only to keep the site running and secure, never to identify or profile visitors.

Preferences on your device

Your theme (light or dark) and map view (Default or Satellite) are remembered in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device, and clearing this site's data in your browser removes them. Your language is part of the page address (for example /hi/), so nothing needs to be stored for it.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

Bhartiya Map sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated first.

Sharing and security

We don't sell, rent or share personal data, and don't use it for advertising. We would hand over an email you sent us only if Indian law required it. The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and since there are no accounts, there are no passwords or visitor profiles to leak.

Children

Students use Bhartiya Map for map work and school projects, and it works without collecting anything about them. Anyone under 18 should ask a parent or guardian before emailing us.

Your rights and questions

If you have written to us, you can ask what we hold about you and have it corrected or deleted. For this, or any question or complaint about privacy, write to hello@bhartiyamap.com with "Privacy" in the subject. We reply within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

This page changes whenever the site changes what it sends or stores, and the date at the top shows the latest change. Our terms and conditions cover the rest of your use of the site.
